Benefits of Studying A-Level Russian

After successfully passing GCSE Russian, our students continue their journey by preparing for A-Level Russian, typically taken in Year 12.
We have developed an effective educational program that includes a support system for both students and their parents.
The lessons are led by certified teachers who have completed training with the Pearson (Edexcel) examination board.

This course broadens students’ social and political horizons, develops critical thinking skills, helps them analyze current events, and provides a significant advantage when applying to universities.

Benefits of Studying A-Level Russian

Candidate Requirements

A grade of 8 or higher in GCSE Russian.

Why Take A-Level Russian?

  • • Extra UCAS points when applying to university.
  • • Official certification of Russian language proficiency – valuable for career prospects.
  • • Significant improvement in language skills.
  • • In-depth understanding of the culture of Russian-speaking countries.

When Is the Best Time to Take A-Level Russian?

We recommend taking the exam in Year 12 – one year before the main A-Level exams. This helps avoid overload in Year 13. Early exam sittings (before Year 12) may not always be accepted by universities, so it’s important to take the exam at the right time.

Where Can the Exam Be Taken?

The A-Level Russian exam can be taken: • At your school (if it is an accredited centre). • At independent Pearson (Edexcel) examination centres.

What Skills Are Required for Success?

Candidates should be able to: ✔ Speak and write confidently on complex topics. ✔ Understand the sociocultural context. ✔ Analyse literary works and films. ✔ Interpret texts both in writing and orally. ✔ Conduct an Independent Research Project (IRP). ✔ Translate both from and into Russian.
